Would Gordon count, in the Sesame Street books? How about the father in Marc Brown’s ‘Arthur’ series? I still think it’s a tie between “Cliff Huxtable” (Bill Cosby) on “The Cosby Show” and “Andy Taylor” (Andy Griffith) on “The Andy Griffith Show”, though, if you’re considering important role models in the past who weren’t exactly “in print”.

I’d have to say the character of “Lazarus Long” created by Robert Heinlein. NOT a prudish individual, definitely competent and one to learn survival skills from. An old-fashioned gentleman with a “no suffering fools gladly” attitude. Anyone who lives to be 2300 years old WILL have learned a few things.
