If you need this Flippee Toilet Shield, it’s likely a miracle product

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

I o200808021505.jpgnly have one boy (as a complement to his older sister) and must say, his aim and concentration in the pee-pee department has always been admirable. Without the aid of cheerios or other floating targets, he stays inside the lines, and rarely have I seen him paint the walls. However, I have known little boys who can barely stand still, and who likely unzip and let it rip, ricocheting their spray off the sides of the toilet. I imagine this is the everyday cleanup problem the inventor of the Flippee Toilet Shield had. Annmarie Vanini, the inventor, is the mom of three boys. I can only guess how wide of the target they must have hit before she took pencil to paper and invented this gadget.

At $24.95, and available from Potty Training Concepts and Flippee.com, you might be surprised at how simple it is. It’s lightweight and very flexible, but does what it says it’s supposed to do. If you need it, and you know who you are, this is probably a small price to pay. Necessity is the mother of invention, for strange, other-wise useless gadgets.

Now if we could only get my son to learn to be as self-sufficient when it comes to #2.

Booster seat for the style conscious

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

The Clek Olli booster seat is billed as a seat “designed for kids and engineered for parents.” And I must say that my daughter loves her powder blue one (though she hopes they come out with a pink), but not for the reasons the marketing materials proclaim. She has never complained about “numb bum,” nor pined away for the “finger grips for added comfort,” but she does appreciate them now. I also had no idea that it’s important to latch a booster seat into newer cars with the latch anchors (hidden between the cushions). I can’t see any safety advantage to the restrained booster seat with a child in it, but that’s not why the latches are there. They are there to overcome the big safety sin we commit all the time: leaving a booster unoccupied in the back seat, which would become a lethal projectile in case of an accident. The Clek Olli Booster comes only as a seat, with an accompanying back, so is only appropriate for use with kids 40-100 pounds and 40-57 inches tall.

In our house, these kind of things seem to be a bigger distraction than a help, but they might work for you.

Baby in a bag!

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

This cool Korbie Diaper Bag is also actually a bassinet and channg table. It opens up to provide ample space to let baby lie comfortably, with sides that come up to keep him from moving too far. Without a baby inside, it’s big enough to carry bottles and diapers. $179.99 in poppy, red and artichoke.Korbie Diaper Bag & Bassinet

We love the Medibottle

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Yet another great invention my kids are now too old to benefit from. This is such a simple idea. The Medibottle is a bottle with a removable syringe. The syringe into the bottom of the bottle and allow you to mix medicine and formula, juice or water. It’s a great way to make sure baby gets the full dose, rather than watching it run down his cheeks and wonder how much to give again. Baby doesn’t taste the medicine since you control how quickly to mix it in with formula or juice.

Maybe if we had tried using these…

My seven year old will eat carrots and my three year old will eat edamame once in a great while. Now I wonder if only we had found these vegetable shaped teething toys, everything would have been easier. At giggle.com.

Breast baby bottle?

I wouldn’t be caught dead using one of these in public though they might have quite an underground market in private. The

Adiri Natural Nurser– Ultimate Bottle 3 is $60 for 3 – they must be targeting a different market.

Cute little light perfect for nighttime changings, or even reading in bed

Monday, September 10th, 2007

The Goo-Goo Baby Totspot Night Light is a clip-on LED light that shines a gentle beam for night time baby duty. We like the blue light and handy form factor. The pivoting head allows you to direct the light in a specific direction if it’s clipped to something stationary. We wish the Totspot were a little more solid, but it is lightweight and makes a good shower gadget item at $12.95.

Cool new product idea – for child safety

Monday, September 10th, 2007

If you’re going to an amusement park, a baseball game, or any where where you might be separated from your child, it’s normal to worry at least little about what happens if you get separated. It’s hard to feel comfortable that kids will not be able to help the police or other officials about key personal data until at least five years old. That’s where the Lost & Found Temporary Tattoos come in. Kids love tattoos and these allow the parents to write in a phone number “just in case. We hate the idea of other tracking systems, even including coded implants, but these are perfect for special use situations. $10 including 6 tattoos, wipes for application and removal and a marker for writing.

Also available are special needs Lost & Found Temporary Tattoos that alert other caregivers or strangers to allergies or medical conditions including autism, and even Alzheimers.
