The parental instinct is present in all of us
Using a technique called magneto-encephalography that measures brain signals, the Oxford researchers found that a baby’s face can seize our attention in milliseconds, activating an unusual mental organ called the fusiform gyrus that responds to human faces…. So, if friends, or even your wife, are teasing you that you’ve gone soft around babies, maybe it’s not that you’re evolving, maybe just that we have as a species, to protect the little ones in our midst.
Making time for sex that doesn’t turn into sleeping
And I’m sure they’re laughing at us. It might be about fatigue from work or from cleaning, wiping, and feeding, but even sex-wild couples find themselves falling asleep in the run-up to sex after babies. That’s why smart sex-starved dads know there is no such thing as “let me just lie down with the kids a few minutes,” or “after we watch this one show,” or “just let me finish this one chapter in my book.”

I told her how my grandfather, each morning before he went to elementary school, had gone upstairs to his own grandfather’s room with a straight razor, soap, and brush, to shave him after he had gone blind in his old age.
…It’s hard to engage after work when you’re tired and stressed, and part of the choice facing fathers is whether to play it safe, stay in that work mode and be very hands-off at home, or to engage with our children, something for which we’ve had no practice, and makes us feel unsure of ourselves.

The government has agreed to compensate the Polings and [...]

Good news on preventing kids’ allergies during pregnancy
In the New York Times today, an article report that the American Academy of Pediatrics no longer will will advise new moms to avoid milk, eggs, fish, peanuts and tree nuts while breast feeding…. The report says: –There is no convincing evidence that women who avoid peanuts or other foods during pregnancy or breast-feeding lower their child’s risk of allergies.
We haven’t tried it yet, but want to.
The Comfy Next Generation Easy PC with Animal World Game” (Imaginative Minds) is a good idea to put little hands on the computer without giving them access to the main keyboard. We found the setup to be easy, though a little bit long. My three-year-old son liked pushing the buttons but didn’t seem to be motivated to stick to any of the games for too long. I couldn’t tell though if was the one that was bored by the level of interaction or if he was into it.
Good Night, America
If you love Good Night Moon with its awkward but reassuring rhymes, you may like the Good Night America series…. They lack the innocence of the original story, and I doubt they will be as interesting to either kids or parents.
A well-done book starring your child
The book also features an optional personalized poly-chenille blanket taht is featured in the story and can also be customized by name, as well as color (pink, blue or green)
Knowing how kids love to hear their names, we were a bit disappointed that the book doesn’t feature the child’s name on every page, but that may have been difficult for cost reasons.
