I just can’t believe it. It’s the end of an era. I can still remember where I was when I first saw her/him. I hope the networks give full coverage of what happened to bring on her early death and play all the commercials as many times as they can so I can relive those wonderful times. There will likely be another Gidget. The time of monolithic dog stars and universally known ad campaigns is over. I feel so sorry for her family, and her puppies.

Gidget the Chihuahua, star of 1990s Taco Bell commercials has died. She was 15. Gidget suffered a stroke late Tuesday night at her trainer’s home in Santa Clarita, Calif., and had to be euthanized, said Karin McElhatton, owner of Studio Animal Services, which owned the dog. In a 1997 Taco Bell television commercial, Gidget was seen as a male dog who proclaims: “Yo quiero Taco Bell,” Spanish for “I want Taco Bell.” What was supposed to be a single advertisement became a campaign that ran from 1997 to 2000.
