Paul Banas

Enter to win a copy of John Lennon, Life is What Happens, to be fedex-ed to you before Christmas.

John Lennon –Life is What Happens celebrates the life and times of one of the most influential musicians in pop music history. A singer, songwriter, artist, social activist, husband and father, Lennon’s genius inspired a generation — and continues to do so today some 30 years after his death.

This fascinating read features rare images of Lennon juxtaposed by the myriad pop-culture memorabilia created from the height of Beatlemania into the late 1970s and the Plastic Ono Band. Chronicling his musical career, the book includes hundreds of classic photographs, dozens of quotes by and about Lennon, and personal reminiscences from fans and celebrities recalling Lennon’s impact on their lives.

All you have to do to enter is suggest a last minute gift idea for mom, and write it in the comments section below.

Please put your email in the form where it asks for email – don’t worry – it won’t show up in the comments. Contest closes Friday, December 17 at midnight, and is open to US addresses only.  Read rules here.

I’m judging Balloon Time’s contest – win a Disney Cruise

Author
Paul Banas

We’ve long used Balloon Time cannisters of helium in our house to fill balloons for parties. Actually, I’m a total cheapskate, so instead of throwing out those metallic balloons of hearts or Mickey Mouse people give for birthdays, I let the rest of the air out when they are “dead” and save the balloon for next time. My wife thinks I’m nuts, but I hate throwing more stuff into landfill, and even more, I hate paying $10 for something that lasts less than a day.

We also fly a inflatable zeppelin around the house (again, not a favorite with my wife), and it leaks helium at a rate of about a refill every 3-4 days. A canister at home has been a good solution to top it off when the kids want another flight.

So I was happy when they asked me to be a guest judge for Balloon Time’s Put A Face On Fun Contest. They are trying to find photos of happy, energetic kids to sue on packaging and advertising. And the lucky winner’s smiling mug will be featured on a Balloon Time  package and will receive a Disney Cruise Line vacation for four (subject to availability). Not bad for a balloon contest.

You can go to PutAFaceOnFun.com to enter the photo (no professional photographs) no later than November 14 at noon. Then, invite your friends and family to vote – a portion of the final tally is determined by popular vote and then finalists by the judges, including yours truly (though, please no bribes!). The winner will be based on the following criteria: smile, age appropriateness, expression of fun and suitability for appearing on packaging.

Let me know if you’ve entered your child! Have fun!
