StoryBoy is an innovative e-book reader and library portal application for iPhones and iPod touch devices that provides animated and interactive storybooks for children ages one through seven. Supported by an online library of original and public domain content, StoryBoy combines animation technology with the power of wireless networks to directly deliver educational, entertaining, kid-safe, and parent-approved e-books to parents and children everywhere.
StoryBoy can be downloaded free from the iTunes App Store and comes with two complimentary titles, First Words 1 and The Three Little Pigs. Additional titles cost $0.99 and may be purchased using iTunes credits.
There are currently 14 titles in the bookstore and 3-4 new titles are added monthly. Each book either teaches kids a specific skill (e.g. the First Words series teaches young tots basic word-object recognition, Galaxy Ben introduces kids to science) or has a moral/value behind the story (e.g. the classic Aesop’s fable The Tortoise and the Hare, Little Blue Robot teaches kids about self-worth).
New series launching in 2010 include Erika Knows Green, a green series for kids about being eco-friendly, and A Day in....(famous city name), a kids’ travel series. Parents can also download free articles for a quick informative read.
StoryBoy is a great way for dads and kids to read a story together anytime and anywhere. Dads are often one of the busiest household members and miss out on story time with the kids because they get home late. StoryBoy allows dads the opportunity to share reading time with their kids wherever and whenever, using mobile technology. The StoryBoy library of books also means that dads and kids have access to many different books so if that 10-minute wait in the doctor's office turns out to be 30-minutes then you can always find another StoryBoy book to read.
We liked StoryBoy because it emulates the experience of reading a book, with titles kids can enjoy. Our kids liked the stories and we enjoyed reading them.
