BookPig is a children's book club for kids 3+ that offers a Netflix®-style book rental service. Families choose favorite books online, have them shipped to their door, and ship them back when they're done. With thousands of books in stock, free shipping both ways, no late fees, and prices 60-80% less than buying, we make it convenient and easy to help kids read more.
BookPig's mission statement is instill a life-long love of reading in children. We do this by offering a unique, affordable and very personalized service. We track the reading level and preferences of each reader to help recommend book they'll love. This feature helps narrow the choice that children might otherwise be faced with, enabling the children to have a successful reading experience.
BookPig is a privately held company launched in April 2010 by 2 families with children in San Francisco, California. Our service is offered via our website, www.bookpig.com, and we ship books to families all over the United States. Reading and story time can be special time for both Dad and children. BookPig's mission is to help instill a life long love of reading in children and it can also encourage a good relationship between Dads and their kids by making reading a relaxed and happy time. This bonding time will also help to build a sense of security and good self esteem.
We like the BookPig's simple interface. It is very much like Netflix in the way it delivers book recommendations to kids based on their reading habits and likes and dislikes. Since they can't "discover" books that are inappropriate for them, like while browsing Amazon, parents can feel safer letting them make their own choices. Particularly valuable are the lists of winners of children's book awards which can make it easier for kids and parents together to make the right decisions.
We have some questions about the price of BookPig. To be very clear, it is not an "all you can eat" book one fee book rental plan. Kids are limited to the number of books in a month, and the price gets high very fast for heavy readers. It's just harder to mail books than it is DVDs. Still, it's a great gift idea for grandparents, or for people who can't get to a library that is close by.
