This award winning, wild, adventurous collectible card game combines exotic animals from both land and sea from a group of islands in the South Pacific. Using stunningly beautiful cards starring endangered species like the Asian elephant and the Sumatran flying squirrel, children match wits in situations that mimic real-life dramas in nature.
Each collection of the Xeko game features one of the planet’s most species-rich places—known as biodiversity hotspots—and raises the level of awareness about each hotspot’s plight. Xeko seeks to enlist the next generation of eco-leaders—“Xeko Masters” in game parlance—and inspire them to use their imaginations, inherent fascination with wildlife, and creativity to protect these and other biological treasures.
The Xekopedia, an online treasure trove of info about the plants and animals featured in the game, is popular with visitors to the Xeko.com website. Dads can stimulate kids’ interest in math, science, and nature by combining two things they love: trading card games and animals. Like the blockbusters Pokčmon and Yu-Gi-Oh, Xeko involves collecting trading cards to create a custom library—or in this case, “Xeko-system”—and using the cards to defend their habitats in exciting game play. Instead of monsters and fantasy, Xeko takes its cues from nature and science, casting actual animal species as the heroes and basing game play on ecosystem relationships.

We at GreatDad love this game. The rules take a little getting used to for little kids, but the illustrations are well-done and we like the secondary card-trading aspect of the game, which has a social message as well.
