Chances are you’ll be loading up the car for a short or long trip this summer. Don’t forget the baby! In case you’re the list-making type (maybe that’s your wife) or a list-following type (that’s probably you), here’s a pre-made one to make sure you don’t forget all the many things you’ll need for even a trip a day away.
Diapers
A good rule of thumb is one for every hour for maximum safety though this might be a lot depending on the baby. This is one of the items where it’s better safe than sorry.
Diaper Changing pad
Blankets
Always good to bring more than one. They double as changing pads and cover ups, but can also shade the baby or even be used as a burping cloth if you get stuck
Plastic bags
For dirty clothes and diapers
Wipes
Diaper rash cream
Sample-size bottles of disinfecting hand gel, baby wash, and baby lotion
Tissues
Extra pacifiers
A few of your baby's favorite toys
Clothes, socks, and booties or shoes
Two outfits per day is a good guideline
Sun hat
Often overlooked since we don’t burn as quickly as babies. Protect your baby from the sun at all times. Don’t let your baby get sunburned.
Lightweight plastic feeding set with utensils, and baby food
Don't forget extra bottles, nipples, and/or sippy cups. Do not get caught on an ascending or descendingairplane without either a pacifier or bottle/sippee cup.
Energy-boosting snackss for you to munch on
Breast pump
Nightlight
For performing nighttime diaper changes withoutturning on the lights
First-aid kit
Baby pain reliever and supplies for treating minor injuries (Remember: do not give aspirin to babies or small children)
Sling or Baby Bjorn
Lightweight and easy to use in crowded places like airports.
Portable crib or play yardd (if your child tolerates this)
Car seat
For safe travel by car, plane, train, or bus
Here are some extra Packing Tipss
With this sheet as a guide, Start preparing to pack a few days before you travel. Throw items in a bag as you think of the item and cross off the list.
Make sure to have a diaper bag with a shoulder strap, that you can carry easily along with the baby.
Consider an extra shirt for yourself in your carry-on bag.
Remember airline rules about liquids in a small zip lock bag. Re-check current regulations before leaving for the airport.
Don’t forget your camera (and batteries/memory cards). Vacations are often when you’ll get the best pictures of the family together.
