Survey of new dads reveals hidden thoughts on fatherhood

New research has been carried out into the true thoughts of modern fathers, revealing some surprising results.

Coleif Infant Drops spoke to dads in the United Kingdom and found that 26 percent of them would prefer a boy to a girl, while only 17 percent would have a baby themselves if they were able to.

Meanwhile, dads in their 30s had the most positive associations with fatherhood, with 63 percent reporting that the experience is better than they thought it would be and a similar number saying they rush home from work to be with their families.

It is a different story for young fathers aged between 22 and 25 however, with one in ten admitting to actually staying at work longer to avoid going home and 27 per cent saying they regret having a baby. Of that age group, the lack of sleep, diminished sex life and the constant crying were the worst things about fatherhood

For older dads in their late 40s, the cost of raising a child was found to be the most difficult thing about starting a family.

The majority of the fathers surveyed cited a lack of sex as one of the worst things about having a baby, which is likely to be an issue for most new dads as doctors in the US suggest leaving six weeks between giving birth and having intercourse. However, after that period, couples should be able to resume a normal sex life, provided the woman feels comfortable.
