Single parents: Struggles can make a family closerBering a single father can be one of the most difficult endeavors a man undertakes. However, through any number of unforeseeable circumstances, a dad may have to take care of his kids by himself. Though it may be tough, single parenting can be a rewarding experience for both dads and kids alike.

According to the United States Census Bureau, there was a rise in single parent households over the last decade or so. In 2006, there were around 12.9 million one-parent families, 2.5 million of which were headed by fathers.

There are many challenges single dads must face, including financial issues and even emotional struggles resulting from divorce or the death of a spouse.

Still, there are positive aspects of parenting alone. Often, house rules are more easily enforced, and communication between parent and child is easier as well. Having open discussion makes it simpler to address issues such as self-esteem and school or social problems.

The extra work that going it alone requires frequently results in a stronger bond between parent and child. Regardless, all that matters is that a dad provides his kids with a safe and loving environment in which they can to flourish.
