Karen, all the "experts" I have read quoted were about the same amount of sleep for infants. I have actually read closer to 18 hours for a newborn. The experts (Martha and Dr. Sears, Author of the No Cry Sleep Solution, The Womanly Art of BFing) were quoting the American Academy of Pediatrics.

What is the source of this info? I notice that it differs a lot from sleep experts like Ferber. (For 3 and 6 months, the experts and doctors say that babies need 2 less hours than this). I'm inclined to believe the experts and doctors instead.

Good Stuff. I am happy to know that my boy is sleeping close to the norm.

This is helpful information, but my children are 3, 4, and 7-years-old. It would be great to see information for pre- and elementary-age children.
