First of all, I'm a medical lab tech, and these tips are great for helping to prevent kids from becoming sick in the first place. But resistance to antibiotics occurs when the antibiotics are not taken correctly in one of two ways:
1. antibiotics are taken until the patient feels better, usually after only a few days.
2. antibiotics are not taken at regular time intervals, such as forgetting or skipping a dose.
The bacteria that survive this short stint of antibiotics have learned to overcome it, and now a new generation of germs are completely resistant to the antibiotic you just took. This has occured with Staph infections, now we have MRSA, (Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus).
So to prevent resistance to antibiotics, take them as your doctor prescribes them, and keep taking them until they are gone, regardless if you feel better.
