It seems that wherever you turn, famous dads are speaking out. The trend may have started with Brad Pitt, whose unusual family situation with three adopted and three biological kids caused many men to wonder how his parenting skills could possibly keep up with his expanding brood. Pitt went on Oprah to show the world that he is indeed human, describing everyday challenges such as spending 30 minutes just to get all the kids buckled into the car.
Meanwhile, celebrity dads ranging from rocker Gavin Rossdale to country crooner Tim McGraw seem eager to discuss their fathering hopes, fears and frustrations - and dole out parenting-advice.
For example, McGraw recently published a book that encourages dads and daughter to read together, entitled My Little Girl.
And Alec Baldwin - whose infamous angry phone message to daughter Ireland shocked many fans - has written a book about fatherhood and custody battles entitled A Promise to Ourselves.
Never have so many famous fathers been so eager to talk about their parenting skills. But can the average dad relate?
Well, take Barack Obama as an example. During the recent presidential campaign, some male voters said that they could identify with his efforts to balance familial responsibilities such as ballet recitals with work commitments. Some have even suggested that the senator's role as a father may have contributed to his success on election day. And some men with unconventional family situations, such as gay dads or single fathers, may have been inspired by Clay Aiken's public discussion about fathering a son with a female friend - and raising the child alone.
Meanwhile, many dads who followed the Alec Baldwin scandal may have been reminded of some important parenting advice: have patience with your children. Because even if your family affairs are not trumpeted across the tabloids, one thing is for sure: a father's parenting skills have a lasting effect on how his kids view the world.
