There’s enough stuff at the de Young to satisfy almost any artistic taste which makes it a fun museum for kids who might have to roam a bit to discover what turns them on.
The real find here on the weekend is the free art class. That’s right, I said free (with museum entry). Kids of all ages, right down to the little ones (3 ˝ -12) are invited in for a tour of one museum exhibit, followed by an art-making session. This is a great gig for dad. You can take in a bit of the museum while your son or daughter listens to the docent, and then sit and read the paper while they work on an art project. That last is a little bit of an exaggeration since you’ll be requested constantly to provide positive feedback. If your child is over eight, you can leave him or her at the program while you tour at your leisure. The classes are held Saturdays from 10:30 to noon for all visitors, and from 1:30 to 3:00 for museum members only. Call 863-3330 or check their website: http://www.deyoungmuseum.org
