Even if you don’t have kids, or you just have a baby, take yourself to the Exploratorium. It’s a museum made for dads. There are fun, hands-on exhibits on how things in the world work, which provide moment-by-moment opportunities for you to explain your vision of the world. Be careful though, watchful kids have been known to pick up on the real science and correct their wise fathers.
Like a lot of things in life, the trick at the Exploratorium is to arrive early, as it opens at 10. Enjoy the empty museum, walking toward the back of the long hall at your own pace. By the time you get to the end and head back the other way, you’ll be glad you didn’t arrive later since you’ll need a machete to cut through the oncoming crowds.
Our particular favorites are the Tactile Dome where you have to navigate only by touch. It’s a hot attraction though so reserve ahead:(415) 561-0362.
