Review: Enchanted casts a spell on kids and parents alike

The fairytale princess formula is turned on its head in this witty and quirky movie, which has something to please all ages.

Enchanted tells the story of Giselle, an animated princess who is prevented from marrying her prince by his evil stepmother, who banishes her to live-action New York City.

Giselle's naive charm and good intentions help her win the hearts of everyone she meets, including an attractive single father and his six-year-old daughter.

Kids over five are more likely to be able to enjoy the storyline of this playful take on a Cinderella tale, even though much of the tongue-in-cheek humor will probably go over their heads.

Even so, there is nothing in this movie - aside from some cartoonish action scenes near the end and a lot of discussion about kissing - that could be objectionable to parents of younger children.

For viewers over ten, the pleasure of this movie is its ability to wink at the audience in the style of Shrek or Stardust - a magic which could inspire even adults to believe in fairytales.
