Movie Review: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

Dads should be warned - their daughters will probably want to see 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2', but this is not a film men are likely to enjoy.

This bubbly teen chick flick tells the story of four high school friends who are starting their first year at college and is based on Ann Brashares' bestselling novels.

Some of the actresses are likely to be well known to teenage girls because of the hit TV shows they have starred in - America Ferrera, who plays Carmen, takes the title role in Ugly Betty, while tomboy Bridget is played by Gossip Girl's Blake Lively.

The two other parts are taken by Alexis Bledel who plays sensitive Lina and Amber Tamblyn in the role of rebel Tibby.

Mostly the movie focuses around boys, boys, boys, in the innocent sense of first dates and chaste kisses.

However, there is one more adult moment in the movie, when Tibby has a pregnancy scare. Also, the character of Bridget offers another level to the film, traveling to Turkey before she goes to college to take part in an archeological dig and coming to terms with her mother's suicide in the process.

Any fathers who were brave enough to take their children to see the first film in 2005 will know the appeal of these movies is strictly limited to girls between the ages of around 12 and 18.

They are gentle and sweet and offer positive female role models to young girls, but are too predictable to appeal to most dads, so the best parenting advice we can offer is for fathers to give their teenage daughters some popcorn money and send them off to the cinema with their friends.
