Tips during pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time of great stress and major upheavals. In addition to preparing for the baby, your spouse may be shouldering other domestic or professional responsibilities. At a time like this, these are some of the things that she can do to reduce her stress and enjoy this phase of her life better. While all of these ideas are for mom,-to-be, remember that you play a supporting role. It’s up to you to help her find the time to take care of herself and in many cases, make some of the same sacrifices so she’ll know you’re in this together.

  • Implement an exercise routine. Your spouse may find that it helps her feel more energetic during the day.

  • Have a short nap during the day. This may be more difficult, though not impossible, if your spouse is still working.

  • Indulge herself. A relaxing shower, massage, or an occasional manicure will make her feel good about herself and uplift her spirits.

  • Use a body pillow. As she approaches the final trimester, this will help her sleep better at night.

  • Maintain cordiality at work. This way her superiors and colleagues will co-operate with her and pitch in to help her.

  • Find out about pregnancy leave rules. This will enable her to exercise the option of staying home on days when she is not feeling well.

  • Laugh often. Humor will be a good tool to help her overcome trifling pains or hassles.

  • Invite friends over. As she becomes increasingly housebound, the company of good friends will provide practical help as well as emotional support.

  • Minimize domestic duties. Now is the time for you to take a more active role in the kitchen, especially in preparation for the first few weeks after the baby arrives.

  • Keep notes and reminders. This will help her cope with the ever increasing list of things that she will need to take care of.

  • Keep up with other new moms. Their experiences will provide both, practical advice and encouragement.
