What can You Do to Help Your Baby Sleep Better?

As babies grow, they exhibit a shift in their sleeping patterns. This means that your baby starts to sleep increasingly longer at night. By the time they are six months old, many babies are able to sleep through the night without needing to be fed in between. This is the right time for you to inculcate good bedtime habits in your baby.

These are ways you can teach your baby to sleep well:

  • Fix a routine for bedtime. Ensure that this suits your schedules so that there is no clash between the two.

  • Control your baby’s nap times.

  • Babies frequently have trouble falling asleep if they are too tired. So, if your baby seems too restless to sleep at the time you planned, try rescheduling it earlier.

  • Prepare the baby for bed. You can do this by arranging activities such as bathing the baby, reading bedtime stories, or singing lullabies just before bedtime. This will help the baby predict what is coming next and prepare for it.

  • Fix a time for your baby to wake up in the morning.

  • Gradually train your baby to learn to fall asleep without your help. You can do this by coinciding the baby’s bedtime with the time when your baby normally appears drowsy.
