Father’s Day Cards

Instead of going to a store and picking up generic Father’s Day cards for your dad with a pre-printed message, consider making the extra effort and writing a personalized message to him.

What to write in Father’s Day cards?

Genre: Funny

If you want to emphasize the playful nature of your relationship with your dad, then write him a funny card. Think about an experience you shared when a humorous incident took place that both of you still smile about. Briefly recount the memory and tell him that you’re so happy that you have a father like him to laugh with during life’s silly moments.

Genre: Sentimental

If you’re feeling gushy towards dad then write him a sentimental card. This is your best bet for pulling at his heartstrings when it comes to Father’s Day cards. Consider a time when your dad helped you when you were in a jam or showed you his consistent support. Tell him the story of what you remember from that time and the role he played.

Genre: Appreciative

If you’re stumped about what to write in this year’s Father’s Day card then you may want to make a “thank you” list. You can thank dad for all that he does for you and the family. It can be as simple as “thank you for taking the trash out every morning” or as serious as “thank you for supporting me after I broke up with my live-in girlfriend.” Remind him of how much you appreciate the ways in which he enhances your life and encourages you. He will enjoy that you acknowledge his efforts. The point is that your father should hear from you just why you love him so much.

Creative Alternative to Standard Father’s Day Cards

As a good-humored alternative to a store bought card, you can create a coupon card for your dad. The coupon you create can be used to mow the lawn, empty the dishwasher, walk the dog, clean out the garage, wash the car, massage his feet, or have ownership of the remote control for an entire day.

The front of the coupon card can be as simple as writing Happy Father’s Day with bright colored markers. The inside of the card should look like a traditional coupon. You can create a checkered border to jazz it up and create a formal “To” and “From” line so it looks like a retail gift certificate. In larger letters using thick black marker you can write “COUPON FOR” and then insert your gift idea here. Your father will definitely enjoy this original idea.
