Kids, particularly young boys, are likely to be dragging their parents to the cinema this weekend as “The Incredible Hulk” bursts onto screens across the country.
Although the big-budget superhero flick is bound to appeal to youngsters, dads who remember the Marvel comic books capers of the green giant may also appreciate this slick remake.
This is the second incarnation of the Hulk on the big screen, with Edward Norton stepping into the title role as Dr Bruce Banner. For those who are not already familiar with the story, the Incredible Hulk centers around a scientist (Norton), who develops superhuman powers after an army experiment goes wrong.
He escapes to Brazil where he hides out in the slums, trying to keep his pulse-rate low so his inner green-beast doesn’t break free, shredding clothes and shoes along the way.
However, the army soon catches up with Bruce and he’s forced to go on the run, meeting up with his girlfriend Betty (Liv Tyler) in Virginia before heading to Manhattan for a show-down with the Abomination (Tim Roth).
This film is not suitable for very young children as they may find the action scenes distressing, but for older kids this is a good action-packed and special effects-filled romp. Meanwhile, while moms and dads are likely to enjoy the excellent characterization from Norton and Tyler.
They may also remember Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk in the 70s TV show and make a cameo appearance in the film.
“The Incredible Hulk” is rated PG-13 and is in cinemas nationwide from today.
