Helmets for Kids during Ski Season

Planning a ski vacation with your kids? It might help to keep the following information in mind about safety for your kids when skiing. Make sure that they do have fun, but a small oversight can be quite hazardous on those slopes.

A helmet reduces the chances of a head injury from a fall or other impacts, one cannot rule out all the possibility with even a helmet on. It is important that your children understand the dangers of skiing without helmets, and inculcate the idea of skiing responsibly.

What is most important when you choose a helmet for your kids is the fit. Seek help from a salesperson if you are unsure about the perfect fit. Measure the circumference of your child’s head above the ears and right above the eyebrows. A simple tailor’s measuring tape will be handy when you do this. A helmet that properly fits is comfortable, and there are no pressure points.

It is a good idea to keep the goggles with you when shopping for helmets. This way, you can match the fit of the goggles and the helmet.

Look for a helmet that meets the set standards (Central European Norm, the ASTM standard, etc.). This ensures that the helmet will be effective when skiing. Ask the salesperson if you need to identify the standards a particular helmet adheres to. Usually, it is available with the product literature.
