Couldn’t disagree more. Most of the world outside the U.S. co-sleeps with their kids in their beds. If you think of what almost all mammals do, it’s completely natural, allowing moms to easily feed their babies and hear them if they need help. I think it also provides babies with an early feeling of security and calm (versus crying all night), which seems to have worked for our kids. The only problem comes if the parents are very over-weight, or if drug or alcohol abuse is an issue.

This issue always looks the same to me. Co-sleeping is generally considered “impossible” or “dangerous”, but only by people who can’t do it. And then, examples are pulled up from people who have failed at doing it safely. It’s the same media pattern. Then, you have the people who do advocate co-sleeping. Generally they have found some impossible way to do it safely. I guess that might be considered speaking from experience? So why do people bash co-sleeping? When you find someone speaking out against it’s usually someone who has never done it themselves. Or, it’s one big crib advertisement like the NY campaign. Go to The Great Co-sleeping Survey on the internet and see what almost 5000 people have said about their co-sleeping life.
