Fathers’ TV favorites revealed

It is generally accepted that dads’ TV viewing is dominated by sporting fixtures and documentaries on the History Channel.

Indeed, many a family argument has ensued across the US as wives and kids try to wrestle the remote from the man of the house, so that cartoons or soap operas can be watched instead of the latest golf tournament.

That may now be a thing of the past, however, as a new survey reveals fathers’ guilty viewing habits.

TiVo recently polled more than 700 fathers and found that ‘Dancing With the Stars’ is their favorite show, while ABC’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, which features a character called McDreamy, also rates highly.

‘Desperate Housewives’, a soap opera tale of suburban living, came in third place, followed by celebrity gossip show ‘Access Hollywood’, MSNBC reports.

Although these are usually thought of as shows aimed at women, the results of this survey show that men also cannot resist a bit of light entertainment. That does not mean fights over the remote are over however – men are unlikely to give up watching sports just yet.

The latest Neilsen viewing figures for games two and three of the NBA finals show a 64:36 ratio of male and female viewers.
