Worried Junior May Develop Allergies? Get a Pet.

USA Today recently ran a front page story which in turn sited an article from the August 2002 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association. The research suggests that children who were exposed to two or more dogs and cats in the first year of life are 45% less likely to test positive for allergies than other kids. This seems to be exactly the opposite what many of us were brought up to believe. I’ve had many parents (and parents to be) tell me that their main reason for not getting a dog or cat is that they’re concerned about triggering allergies in their children. Well, it looks like that excuse for remaining petless may now be on thin ice.
