Right after Birth – The First Few Hours of Life: Medical Care for Your Newborn.

You would need to have your baby go through many important tests and procedures to ensure their health right after birth. Some of these are even required by law. However, a baby who has not been poked and prodded may be more willing to nurse and cuddle. So before delivery, talk to your doctor or midwife about delaying shots, medicine and tests. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, as long as the baby is healthy, everything but the Apgar test can wait for at least an hour. This minor medical delay will buy time for you and your partner to make your baby feel welcome and establish a bond that will last a lifetime. The following tests and procedures are recommended/ required in most hospitals in the United States:
