Fatherhood got a lot more fun at a recent disc golf tournament in Illinois.
The sport, which was hosted at Patriots Park in Homewood, employs the same rules as normal golf but substitutes the ball with a Frisbee and uses metal baskets for holes, reports the Southtown Star.
Father and son teams must tackle a total of 12 holes, with each ideally completed in no more than three ‘strokes’.
The title was ultimately clinched by Dave and Mike Mitchell on 95 points, but other competitors insisted it was all about the taking part.
George Bouchie, who played with his nine-year-old son Nathaniel, explained the team sport brought out the best of fatherhood.
He told the news source: "Spending time together is very important to us and this is something that we wouldn’t have considered doing on our own spontaneously without the park district suggesting it.
"We haven’t played before, but since we’re both new at it, we thought it would be something good to try together."
The game may interest separated fathers in particular. New research has suggested that three-quarters of them would like to spend more quality time with their children, reports Australia’s Herald Sun newspaper.
