New world record: New Dad at 79

July 4, 2010 by Paul Banas Leave a Comment

There's a new kid on the geriatric dads block, and has a new son. He had to beat out a man a year younger and more virile than he was to win the record. At 79, Raymond Calvert, of Winewall, Lancashire England, is the world's oldest new dad. I hope I'm still humping like this at 79, though it's a bit hard to believe that no special drugs were involved, unless you count his 25 … [Read more...] about New world record: New Dad at 79

Little Zac Hanson (of The Hansons) to Be a Dad again

July 2, 2010 by Paul Banas Leave a Comment

It seems like this guy should be about 40 by now. But I guess he was the little tiny Hanson in the boy band. And now little Zac is all grown up and a dad two times at just 24.    The pop rocker, 24, and his wife Kate are expecting their second child, he revealed Thursday on nationally-syndicated radio show Kidd Kraddick in the Morning.[From News - Hanson Brother to … [Read more...] about Little Zac Hanson (of The Hansons) to Be a Dad again

A Great Dad: Gilles Marini?

July 1, 2010 by Paul Banas Leave a Comment

An interview with Gilles Marini. I don't even know who this guy is, but I guess he's on that insipid Brothers and Sisters show my wife watches. You can tell by the swelling music that it's like the old, old 30 Something (same producers) and made for moms, not dads. Interesting response on the big lesson of fatherhood. I have to say that "spend more time at work" is not of the … [Read more...] about A Great Dad: Gilles Marini?

Warning Labels on Choking Foods?

June 24, 2010 by Paul Banas Leave a Comment

The American Academy of Pediatrics, the nation’s leading pediatricians’ group,  is calling on the Food and Drug Administration to require warning labels on foods that are known choking hazards, and to evaluate and monitor food for safety. The Academy says that food should be subject to monitoring in the same way as toys. Children under 4 are particularly at risk … [Read more...] about Warning Labels on Choking Foods?

But is Landon Donovan a great dad?

June 23, 2010 by Paul Banas Leave a Comment

I don't know if he's even a father, but a thrilling match (this morning US time) in Cape Town, with the US pulling ahead 1-0 after 91 minutes of play. I was surprised Algeria was the underdog, after so many years of thinking that soccer is the only sport in the world (well, maybe Rugby), where the US doesn't dominate year after year. Algeria was expected to lose 2-0, but had a … [Read more...] about But is Landon Donovan a great dad?

Great Dad Talks
Great Dad Talks

Great Dad Talks is a series of conversations with experts on all aspects of the family adventure. With the perspective that “dads don’t always think like moms,” our mission is to support dad voices and our slightly different approaches to parenting. We’ll try to find solutions to every day challenges like getting kids off the couch and making STEM classes available for both boys and girls. But we’ll also tackle bigger issues when they come. The one main theme will be to support dads in the most important role of their lives that of being a great dad.
