Fertility treatments get discounted by CVS

Couples who dream of putting their parenting skills to work but are struggling to conceive a child may be able to receive a discount on fertility treatments from CVS.

The drug store chain has said it will offer reduced prices to prospective fathers and mothers who do not have fertility medication health insurance or have already maxed out their coverage.

This offer could give renewed hope to men who are hoping to experience the joy of parenthood with their pregnant wife.

In addition to access to medications, the CVS Caremark Fertility Managed Plan offers 24-7 support and counseling, educational materials and a delivery service.

"We recognize that fertility medications can be expensive and that this may pose a barrier for some couples considering treatment," said Joan O'Rourke, N.P., Vice President, Strategic Operations, CVS Caremark Specialty Pharmacy.

There are approximately 7.3 million Americans affected by infertility, according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

Figures from the National Center for Health Statistics reveal that around nine million women have used infertility services.
