During her pregnancy, your spouse might feel tired even after she has had a lot of sleep. Many women find they're particularly exhausted in the first trimester. According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, there is no need to worry as this is perfectly normal. This is just the mother’s body's way of telling her that she need more rest.

In the second trimester, tiredness is usually replaced with a feeling of well being and energy. But in the third trimester, exhaustion often sets in again. As she get larger, sleeping may become more difficult. The baby's movements, bathroom runs, and an increase in the body's metabolism might interrupt or disturb her sleep. Leg cramping can also interfere with a good night's sleep.

Try these tips to make her feel and sleep better:

  • When she is tired, make sure she gets some rest
  • Make sure she gets about eight hours of sleep every night, and a short nap during the day
  • If she feels stressed, try to find ways for her to relax
  • Get her to sleep on her left side. This will relieve pressure on blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to the fetus
  • If your spouse has high blood pressure during pregnancy, always get her to lay on her left side when she is lying down
  • Get her to avoid eating large meals three hours before going to bed
  • Make sure she gets some mild exercise like walking
  • Make her avoid long naps during the day
