Review: Star Wars – The Clone Wars

August 22, 2008 by James Dunsford Leave a Comment

Die-hard Star Wars fans may flock to the new animated feature, The Clone Wars, but the average father may find its effect less sweeping and dramatic than its precursors.

There is almost no graphic violence portrayed in this PG-rated movie, but there is plenty of action – mostly involving lightsabers and energy beams – to keep younger and preteen children entertained. Since the film’s focus is on war, parents should know that are also scenes of soldiers being injured and dying in battle.

The plot begins with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s attempts to fight an army of android troops led by separatist Count Dooku.

Anakin is given a feisty new Jedi student named Ahsoka Tano and the pair team up to rescue Jabba the Hutt’s kidnapped son to earn the gangster’s favor.

As the adventure unfolds, a host of familiar characters pop up along the way, such as Padme Amidala, Yoda, R2-D2 and C-3PO.

The movie sets the scene for a new animated Star Wars series that will soon be airing on TV, so parents can expect that their young ones will be begging to see it.

However, some reviews suggest that adults may feel it is not the epic ride they are used to enjoying from the franchise.
