Hey folks, it’s Paul Banas here from Great Dad Talks. This week, we’re diving into a topic that sometimes gets sidestepped in discussions about fatherhood—let’s talk about sex. I had the pleasure of chatting with Dr. Elliot Justin, who shared some incredible insights about male sexuality, erectile health, and how modern dads can stay connected with their partners in the bedroom.

Breaking Down the Basics with Dr. Justin

Dr. Justin has an incredible background in emergency medicine and technology, specifically in areas that impact men’s health directly, like cardiovascular disease and erectile health. Our conversation kicked off with a little background on his pioneering work in these fields.

“I’m 72, and I think it’s really important for couples to plan for pleasure,” Dr. Justin emphasized. This is a piece of advice that hits home for many dads navigating the complexities of family life.

The Science Behind Erectile Health

One standout point was Dr. Justin’s perspective on erectile dysfunction (ED). Rather than seeing ED as a lack of ability, he notes it’s often more about the loss of an erection during sex. “The problem is with men who lose their erection more easily as they get older. What happens is not that they can’t get one, but they can’t keep it,” he explains.

Key Advice on Maintaining Sexual Health:

  • Consider using erection rings, which he refers to as “erection rings” rather than “cock rings” to make the conversation a bit more comfortable.
  • Use a combination of nonpharmacological solutions like rings with medications if necessary.

Dr. Justin continues, “Most men, as they get older, get less stimulation from the vagina. My hand can deliver far more pleasure than a vagina… Planning for pleasure is important.”

The Role of Technology

Dr. Justin’s approach incorporates a data-driven understanding of erectile health. His company developed technology that allows for the objective assessment of a man’s sexual health, particularly the firmness and frequency of nocturnal erections.

“Couples want to know, is it something physical going on, or is it something personal? But learning that something personal can be dangerous as well,” he says. This insight offers dads a route to understanding any underlying issues without the shame often associated with ED.

Communication is Key

One of the most invaluable takeaways is the importance of communication and planning in maintaining sexual health and satisfaction in a relationship. The stress of raising kids, changing family dynamics, and personal health issues can create roadblocks, but open conversation and strategic planning can make all the difference.

Strategies for Improved Communication and Intimacy:

  • Talk openly with your partner about sexual needs and desires.
  • Use data and technology to help solve sexual health issues.
  • Accept that needing help doesn’t mean there’s a problem—it’s about optimizing experiences.

Dr. Justin is all about demystifying the stigma surrounding sex and ED. His advice is clear: “We need to stop the blood from leaving the penis, and that plays in with confidence issues.”

Looking Forward

Sexual health post-kids and into middle age doesn’t have to be a taboo subject. With experts like Dr. Justin leading the conversation, modern dads can find ways to enhance and maintain a satisfying sex life. Remember, planning for pleasure isn’t just about spontaneity—it’s about ensuring both you and your partner are satisfied and connected.
