It was a light year for us seeing the movies, and few were Dad flicks. The only one we saw together with the kids was Paul Blart Mall Cop, which would fit the bill for #2 on your list.

Best dad in a film would have to be Ben Stiller in Night in the Museum 2, although Ice Age 3 is a great one for dad to watch with their kids. We all laughed hysterically over that film and there is a message about family in there.

Best about dads and kids: The Road – bleak and depressing but honest about the existential legacy of fathers

Best for Dads and Kids – Madagascar 2 – we laughed our tails off!

Best dad – Ben Stiller in Night at Museum 2 – wins the day, again!

Best supporting dad – Jeffrey Tambor in The Hangover – now that’s a great dad-in-law!

Anyone see The Father in Korean?

I think that boys and their fathers should watch UP together. The message to me is that sometimes a “father” won’t always arrive in the form of biological genetics, and that sometimes a “father” is a man who sticks by you, listens to you, helps you when you are in need, and teaches you to do the homorable thing. To me, UP was about love, both conventional (with his wife) and unexpected (with Russel).

My best dad in the best starring role for a dad category is Lance Clayton in World’s Greatest Dad. He wants to do the right thing for his son, for his students and for himself. And I like Robin Williams, he plays a great role as a dad.

Great Dad Talks is a series of conversations with experts on all aspects of the family adventure. With the perspective that “dads don’t always think like moms,” our mission is to support dad voices and our slightly different approaches to parenting. We’ll try to find solutions to every day challenges like getting kids off the couch and making STEM classes available for both boys and girls. But we’ll also tackle bigger issues when they come. The one main theme will be to support dads in the most important role of their lives that of being a great dad.
