Gifts for Dads to Play With Kids

October 17, 2007 by GreatDad Writers Leave a Comment

Still thinking about what to get Dad for the holidays? Let GreatDad.com guide you with our top recommendations of gift suggestions for dads. And, since we’re dads ourselves, we went beyond the usual suspects of slippers, ties, sports and other predictable presents to offer ideas that will not only surprise him but will let him know that you truly appreciate all he does.

The Cosmic Catch (Hasbro) – $24.93 Is on our holiday list just because it takes the basic ball concept just one step further. The ball itself announces who to throw to, among a possible six wristband-wearing players. Kids can work together to beat old records or play to win by eliminating competitors. Everyone gets a turn, even dad on the couch. Too bad there’s not a way to put dad’s color in at lower ratios. $25 in different colors!

Spy laser chase – $19.95 Call this “laser tag” and take the shooting element out of it and it’s a fun game.  This is laser tag based on a wristheld laser and receiver.  Sound effects tell you when you’ve fired and when you’ve been hit.

Brio Labryinth with extra boards – $35.19  The Brio Labryinth is a decidedly low-tech game from the 60s that still tests coordination and nerves.  This may be a game that dads can win while still being equally intriguing for kids.  Made of wood, it’s a classic that will last a long time.

Legends of Magic Magic Set – $49.95 Everything’s here for dad to learn and perform all the classic magic tricks with a young magician.  This may be just the right thing for them to learn together.  Imagine the magic duo they will make.

Lionel New York Central Flyer Train Set – $299.95 Here’s a great starter O-gauge train set that’s perfect for a dad to set up to play with a young engineer.  It’s the gift that’s for the child, but really for the child inside the dad.

Great Dad Talks
Great Dad Talks

Great Dad Talks is a series of conversations with experts on all aspects of the family adventure. With the perspective that “dads don’t always think like moms,” our mission is to support dad voices and our slightly different approaches to parenting. We’ll try to find solutions to every day challenges like getting kids off the couch and making STEM classes available for both boys and girls. But we’ll also tackle bigger issues when they come. The one main theme will be to support dads in the most important role of their lives that of being a great dad. Decoding Dad’s Mental Load with Zach Watson
byPaul Banas

In this episode of Great Dad Talks, guest Zach Watson dives deep into the often-misunderstood topic of “mental load” in modern partnerships and parenting. Zach, known for his educational and relatable takes on invisible labor in relationships, shares how the mental and emotional workload disproportionately impacts women—often in ways that go unrecognized by men.

Whether you’re struggling with household challenges, feeling disconnected from your partner, or just want to strengthen your role as a dad and partner, this episode is for you.
