Benefits of sex during pregnancy

August 21, 2009 by James Dunsford 12 Comments

Here’s some parenting advice for expectant fathers: a pregnant woman may need more than just a second round of ice cream and new clothes.

Studies have shown that a pregnant woman’s hormonal balance may be a little off, which means that there may be days when she’s feeling particularly in the mood to have sex.

If this happens, fathers should know that having sex during a pregnancy is relatively safe and may even benefit the unborn child as well.

However, it’s important to talk to your doctor at the beginning of the pregnancy, and subsequent checkups, to be sure it will be safe. Women with a history of premature birth or labor may be advised against having sex.

One of the advantages of having sex while pregnant is the emotional connection a woman may feel with her partner. This can be a trying time for her, especially with all the hormonal changes in her body, and being able to have that human connection through touch can benefit her mental health.

It’s been shown that any kind of lovemaking that leads to an orgasm for the woman can increase the blood supply to the uterus and vagina, which will help the child in the womb. Studies have also shown that intercourse close to the due date may actually soften the cervix and help with the birthing process.

Finally, many couples have commented that they had a heightened sexual experience when they made love during a pregnancy that strengthened their relationship and allowed them to find new ways to enjoy each other in bed.ADNFCR-1662-ID-19321323-ADNFCR
