Dads Talk: Favorite Valentine’s Day Gifts

April 8, 2009 by GreatDad Writers Leave a Comment

Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion for wives and kids to show their love and appreciation for dads. Fortunately many dads receive and cherish the gifts and memories which make this day extra special for them.  Here are some of our readers who have mentioned their favorite Valentine’s Day gifts that they have received over the years.

“The best Valentine’s Day gift I ever received was this past Valentine’s Day! My daughter and wife made me a batch of red velvet (yum! my absolute favorite!) cupcakes and hand-delivered them to my office; along with a Valentine’s Day card hand-written by the both of them! Also, my six year-old daughter, gave me her best five-minute rendition of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ in front of all my co-workers! It was the ‘sweetest thing’ I’ve ever witnessed!”
-LeAndrew, Dallas, TX

“My wife had been saving (behind my back) and surprised me with a 55″ wide screen television. It was awesome!!! Of course we both are enjoying it. She’s an awesome woman!”
-Kevin, Blue Springs, MO

“My wife treated me to a trip to a day spa. It was the best because it made me feel special.”
-Buddy, Jefferson, ME

“My wife made me a great meal this past Valentine’s Day.”
-Gus, El Paso, TX

“The best gift I received was my blackberry. Can’t live without it now, and have been wanting it forever.”
-David, Largo, FL

“I would say my best gift was a trip to Disneyland!”
-James, Anaheim, CA

“Best Valentine’s gift was a card from my wife. What she wrote meant a lot to me.”
-Timothy, Lexington, MA

“My wife gave me a very loving hug, and said ‘I LOVE YOU’.”
-Morgan, Salem, MA

“Can’t beat a simple kiss”
-Jacob, Helena, MT

“Every year my wife buys me a box of dark chocolate raspberry jellies from our hometown candy shop. I could buy them myself but somehow they taste better knowing she bought them for me.”
-Robert, Manahawkin

On a lighter note:
“A Ukulele from my girl friend. Then I had to play it for her.”
-Robby, Charlotte

“Come on, I’m a guy. I don’t remember these things all the time. So I’d probably say the best gift was a home cooked meal.”
-Jim, Nashua

“The best Valentines Day gift I ever received was getting dumped! Hard to believe, but it was the best gift because I got my freedom back and stopped trying to please a girl who was totally wrong for me.”
-Bruce, Laguna Niguel

Great Dad Talks

Great Dad Talks is a series of conversations with experts on all aspects of the family adventure. With the perspective that “dads don’t always think like moms,” our mission is to support dad voices and our slightly different approaches to parenting. We’ll try to find solutions to every day challenges like getting kids off the couch and making STEM classes available for both boys and girls. But we’ll also tackle bigger issues when they come. The one main theme will be to support dads in the most important role of their lives that of being a great dad. Decoding Dad’s Mental Load with Zach Watson
byPaul Banas

In this episode of Great Dad Talks, guest Zach Watson dives deep into the often-misunderstood topic of “mental load” in modern partnerships and parenting. Zach, known for his educational and relatable takes on invisible labor in relationships, shares how the mental and emotional workload disproportionately impacts women—often in ways that go unrecognized by men.

Whether you’re struggling with household challenges, feeling disconnected from your partner, or just want to strengthen your role as a dad and partner, this episode is for you.
